Lead Forensic Interview Specialist Zero Abuse Project
While the idea of the multidisciplinary approach is nothing new to field of child abuse investigations, teams sometimes act on assumptions about other disciplines' roles and capacity, reinforce outdated practice, suffer from a lack of communication or simply just don't know what they don't know! This can negatively impact judicial outcomes and lead to unnecessary obstacles as cases progress. By examining a series of case studies, this workshop will identify common areas of team process breakdown and will suggest strategies for creating a case trajectory that is purposeful and well-planned, maximizes the skillsets of team members and prevents unnecessary hurdles in the judicial process, case stalls, continuances and unintentional systems-inflicted trauma to victims and their families.
Learning Objectives:
Give teams concrete suggestions for assessing a case trajectory on a macro-level and translate that assessment into a case or team action plan
Offer strategies for the court process including witness preparation, effectively utilizing the forensic interviewer and getting ahead of potential challenges and attacks during witness testimony
Sharpen the MDT's ability to anticipate potential pitfalls in cases and offer concrete tools for building strategic team infrastructure to avoid potential issues
