As a team, we work a case from disclosure, through the investigation until there is a resolution. Some of our most complex cases involve child sexual abuse, because a child's statement may be the most compelling evidence in the investigation. After a child discloses sexual abuse, we take steps to protect the child, address their needs, and hold others accountable when indicated. When a child recants their disclosure, we often feel stuck and may not know how to proceed. Do we continue with the investigation, reinterview the child, close the case, or some other option? This workshop will review the challenges associated with recantations and discuss options for the team to address the recantation as we work to ensure the child is protected and supported.
