Lessons Learned from a Child Molest Prosecution Twenty-Seven Years After the Crime (REPEAT)

This case study highlights the lessons learned from the presenter's experience of investigating and obtaining a conviction of a child molester twenty-seven years after the crime (without DNA, without a confession, and initially without any known witnesses) - lessons that any investigator or prosecutor can use. The case study highlights how a search warrant was obtained and how critical evidence was found twenty years after the crime in the possession of the suspect. As a unique case decided by the Supreme Court, it has been used in training and in warrant affidavits to show that even after twenty years, certain evidence is more likely than not to still be in the suspect's possession - evidence that can seal their conviction.
