Six-year-old JonBenet Ramsey was murdered in her Colorado home around Christmas Day in 1996. This presentation will first provide an overview of the publicly available evidence and identify investigative challenges with this unsolved case. Then the presenter, an experienced former federal prosecutor who was not involved in the investigation, will describe the present and emerging high technology and digital evidence that might be available if the same crime happened in 2023. The presentation is not intended to solve the Ramsey case, but rather to explore new ways to investigate and prosecute cases like it using a new functional approach to high technology and digital evidence. The presentation will discuss IoT evidence, DNA, open-source intelligence, smart homes, smartphones, geolocation, and other potential sources of evidence.
