Training Specialist Northeast Regional Children's Advocacy Center
As we learn more about the impact of trauma on the families we serve, and the impact of secondary traumatic stress on professionals involved in the intervention of child maltreatment, it is critical for multidisciplinary teams (MDTs) to apply these concepts in their response. Incorporating a trauma-informed approach to child abuse will result in positive outcomes for families and professionals. This workshop will provide guidance for MDT members to adapt their response in an effort to better engage families and support fellow teammates. Participants will learn how to recognize and address these concerns when handling child abuse cases and in their interactions with their professional colleagues.
Learning Objectives:
Identify the impact of trauma on children and families, and the professionals who serve them
Identify ways the MDT can enhance their engagement with families
Identify the importance of MDT members recognizing secondary traumatic stress in one another and ways to lessen its impact on the team
