Illegal and harmful content are known threats to children's safety, but what about legal content that’s deliberately “curated for consumption?” This seemingly benign content doesn’t violate any online platform policies or guidelines, but upon closer investigation reveals dangerous online harms hidden in plain sight. For example, innocent images of kids doing everyday activities, which are signposted with unique hashtags, or short video formats that slowly become more provocative. This presentation will use real-world examples to highlight the need to codify this emerging threat. The presenters will detail how offenders use it to “play the long game,” building trust with victims over time. They will also explain why it is the next big threat to child safety.
