The goal of this presentation is to teach how to prepare for conducting a forensic interview when the child does not speak the same language as the forensic interviewer. The importance of cultural considerations, with a focus on language, will be discussed to help the forensic interviewer prepare for the interview prior to the family arriving. Participants will review various services offered and how to decide what is best for the interview and their multidisciplinary team. Participants will discuss a process for utilizing the interpreter, including sign language interpreters, when they are present for the forensic interview. This will include a process for preparing the interpreter for the unique process of a forensic interview. Considerations for sharing information and a post debrief with the interpreter will be discussed.
