According to national statistics, children with disabilities are three times more likely to be victims of sexual abuse. This increased risk of victimization is amplified due to the unique dynamics of sexual abuse of children with disabilities. Furthermore, research demonstrates that there is a lack of prevention measures to promote safety for children with disabilities. When children with disabilities experience sexual abuse, there are also disparities in their access to appropriate interventions and victims’ services. This workshop will explore factors contributing to the incidence and prevalence of child sexual abuse of children with disabilities and the unique characteristics of the dynamics of sexual abuse. The workshop will focus on areas of prevention and intervention to promote the safety and wellbeing of children with disabilities.
