The U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) is the nation’s oldest federal law enforcement agency, having served the country since 1789. The USMS uses this influence and reach gained through its accomplished history and broad authority to collaborate with other federal, state, local, and international law enforcement agencies, as well as with concerned citizens and members of the judiciary, to form a united front against crime. The USMS Sex Offender Investigations Branch (SOIB) and Missing Child Unit (MCU) are dedicated to protecting the public through the coordinated enforcement of sex offender registration laws and assisting law enforcement agencies in locating critically missing children. So far in FY2023, SOIB contributed to over 17,400 sex offender compliance checks, to the arrest of over 700 non-compliant sex offenders, and to the recovery of over 350 missing and endangered children.
