This workshop is a review of the injuries commonly encountered in abusive head trauma (AHT) in infants and children, as well the evolving courtroom medical defenses. The pathophysiology and basic physics of AHT will be discussed in language which will be easily understood by a lay audience with all medical terminology explained as the presentation progresses. Both common and new courtroom medical defenses will be reviewed with clear explanations of why not they are scientifically valid. At the end of the presentation attendees from all professions should come away with a solid understanding AHT which will enable them to better fulfill their professional roles in cases of suspected AHT.
